Overview

The objective of the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Artificial Intelligence is to equip learners with an in-depth understanding of contemporary Artificial Intelligence (AI) methodologies, practices, and the evolving technological landscape. This qualification aims to explore both the theoretical underpinnings and practical applications of AI, providing learners with the expertise to engage in discussions, research, and the development of AI systems across various domains.

Learners will gain comprehensive insights into foundational AI concepts, including classical symbolic and statistical methods, and will delve into advanced topics such as deep learning, neural networks, intelligent agents, ethics, fairness, and AI's role in sustainable development. By understanding the impact of AI on various sectors, including its integration in achieving sustainability goals, learners will be well-prepared to tackle real-world challenges using AI-driven solutions.

The qualification offers mandatory units that focus on the core aspects of AI, ensuring a holistic learning experience. The curriculum spans a wide range of topics, including the introduction to AI, deep learning, ethical considerations, AI's application in sustainability, and the development of intelligent agents. The goal is to foster a deep awareness of AI's potential, its ethical and societal implications, and its use in modern problem-solving scenarios.

Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners will possess the knowledge and skills required to work in roles related to AI research, development, and implementation. They will be equipped to pursue further studies or professional roles in sectors such as technology, healthcare, finance, sustainability, and public policy, contributing to the ongoing evolution of AI in society.

Equivalences

The OTHM Level 7 diplomas on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) are at the same level as master’s degrees. However, they are shorter (120 credits) and learners will have to proceed to the dissertation stage (60 credits) with university to achieve a full masters programme.

Qualification Structure

The OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Artificial Intelligence consists of 6 mandatory units, 120 credits, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and the recommended Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification is a minimum of 600 hours.

All units are mandatory.

Mandatory Units

  • Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
  • Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability
  • Ethics, Fairness and Explanation in Artificial Intelligence
  • Deep Learning
  • Intelligent Agents
  • Research Methods

Duration and Delivery

The qualification is designed to be delivered over one academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning.

The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, online by approved centres only.

Assessment and Verification

All units within this qualification are assessed and internally quality assured by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the assessor.

Specific assessment guidance and relevant marking criteria for each unit are made available in the Assignment Brief document. These are made available to centres immediately after registration of one or more learners.

The assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.

Equipment requirements

This qualification is designed to provide learners with a deep understanding of Artificial Intelligence, coding, and building apps.

Therefore, learners and centres must have suitable equipment and software that is capable of:

  • Running a "proof of concept" deep neural network inference.
  • Running one of the following cloud-based solutions seamlessly:
