Overview

The objective of the OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain and Operations Management is to provide learners with a broad and applied understanding of how goods, information and resources are planned, moved and controlled across modern supply chains.

The qualification has been designed to respond to current sector needs, including operational resilience, intermodal transport, digital visibility, customer service, international freight, automation, sustainability and safe working practice. It draws on established market provision while extending the depth and breadth of content in order to provide a coherent and forward-looking Level 3 pathway.

Learners will develop knowledge and skills in business operations, cross-functional coordination, operations management, logistics processes, transport planning, and international trade and freight management. Successful completion will support progression to higher study, including relevant Level 4 qualifications, and entry into a range of operational and supervisory roles across logistics, warehousing, transport and supply chain environments.

Entry Requirements

These qualifications are designed for learners who are typically aged 16 and above.

The entry profile for learners is likely to include at least one of the following:

  • GCE Advanced level in 3 subjects or an equivalent qualification
  • Mature learners (over 21) with relevant management experience (learners must check with the delivery centre regarding this experience prior to registering for the programme)

Equivalences

OTHM qualifications at Level 3 represent practical knowledge, skills, capabilities and competences that are assessed in academic terms as being equivalent to GCE AS/A Levels.

Qualification Structure

The OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain and Operations Management qualification consists of 6 mandatory units, 120 credits, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time

(TQT) and the recommended Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification is a minimum of 600 hours.

All units are mandatory.

  • Business Operations Along the Supply Chain - 20 Credits
  • Cross-functional Interconnectivity - 20 Credits
  • Operations Management - 20 Credits
  • Logistics and Supply Chain Operations Management - 20 Credits
  • Transport Planning and Operations Management - 20 Credits
  • International Trade and Freight Management - 20 Credits

Duration and Delivery

The qualification is designed to be delivered over twelve month for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning.

The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, online by approved centres only.

Assessment and Verification

All units within this qualification are assessed and internally quality assured by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the assessor.

Specific assessment guidance and relevant marking criteria for each unit are made available in the Assignment Brief document. These are made available to centres immediately after registration of one or more learners.

The assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.

Progressions

Successful completion of the OTHM Level 3 Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain and Operations Management enables learners to progress into or within employment and/or continue their further study. Learners may progress to OTHM Level 4 Diplomas, including OTHM qualifications in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Management or related areas, or to other recognised higher-level programmes where entry requirements are met.

As this qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation), learners are eligible to gain direct entry into a UK Bachelor’s degree programme. For more information visit the University Progressions page on the OTHM website.
