Overview

The objective of the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Airline, Airport and Aviation Management is intended to develop learners’ understanding of policy, management theory and practice in airline, airport and aviation management.

The qualification provides learners with an opportunity to engage with the challenges facing professionals and policy makers in their own country and provides knowledge that underpins the ability to work as an effective manager in the sector.

Learners will develop and enhance knowledge and skills in the areas of airline and airport operations, air transport marketing, sustainability, airline commercial planning, digital marketing, risk management and safety and security management for airports, and also learn about the ways in which the contemporary global context affects management in these areas.

Successful completion of this qualification will allow learners to work in a variety of roles within airline, airport and air transport management and to progress to further study.

Entry Requirements

The OTHM Level 5 Diploma Airline, Airport and Aviation Management qualification can be offered to learners from age 19. It is recommended that learners hold a Level 4 Diploma in Airline, Airport and Aviation Management or equivalent qualification.

OTHM centres must ensure learners are recruited with integrity onto appropriate qualifications and that they possess the required knowledge, understanding and skills to enrol and successfully achieve this qualification. The qualification is offered in English.

Centre Requirements

To deliver a Airline, Airport and Aviation Management Qualification a Centre must provide evidence that staff hold, as a minimum, a Level 6 or higher qualification in one or more of the following subjects:

  • Aviation
  • Logistics
  • Travel and Tourism

Equivalences

OTHM qualifications at Level 5 represent practical knowledge, skills, capabilities and competences that are assessed in academic terms as being equivalent to Foundation Degrees, Higher National Diploma (HND) and Year 2 of a three-year UK Bachelor's degree.

Qualification Structure

The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Airline, Airport and Aviation Management qualification consists of 6 mandatory units for a combined total of 120 credits, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 600 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

  • Consumer Behaviour in Aviation - 20 Credits
  • Digital Marketing in Aviation - 20 Credits
  • Airport Management - 20 Credits
  • Safety and Security for Aviation - 20 Credits

Duration and Delivery

The qualification is designed to be delivered over one academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning.

The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, online by approved centres only.

Assessment and Verification

All units within this qualification are assessed and internally quality assured by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the assessor.

Specific assessment guidance and relevant marking criteria for each unit are made available in the Assignment Brief document. These are made available to centres immediately after registration of one or more learners.

The assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.

Progressions

Successful completion of the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Airline, Airport and Aviation Management qualification enables learners’ direct entry into Year 3 of a three-year UK Bachelor’s degree.

As this qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation), many universities acknowledge the ability of learners after studying Level 5 Diploma in Airline, Airport and Aviation Management and consider for direct entry into a range of their Degree programmes.
